Artificial Chicanes

To add more gameplay we decided that artificial chicanes, similar to those that you would see in the Real Rally situations, would be added to the game. It's one thing to automatically place these objects to form a chicane, but with that comes extra tasks like adjusting the AI spline and potentially the skidmarks that are laid on the track to suit. Usually with any new feature, comes a knock on effect. The AI in the game drives the track to achieve it's best time, and this is what we use to balance up the single player rally modes.

Once the AI spline was adjusted, we then place the chicane obstacles to suit. In this case we are using hay bales, as that seems to be the general norm.

You can also see some of the newer water features in these screen shots, ditches filled and a small pond. Notice how the fence goes through the water, this is another knock on effect where I now need to make sure that the procedurally placed fences don't get placed in areas like that.
